Shining Resonance Refrain is the latest entry into the Shining series of jrpgs by SEGA.
The game is an updated version of the original, shining resonance for the ps3 that was Japan only at the time initially.
The game has a new refrain mode that contains a lot of side stories mainly what if scenarios.
It focuses on Yuma and friends as they journey to stop an evil empire for creating chaos throughout the land.
The gameplay is similar to the Tales series of jrpgs with its combat each character has their own unique abilities to use in combat that can be leveled up and choose whichever you think is best for the situation ahead of you.

You can do sidequests but its really just the same get items or kill a certain amount of enemies and thats it.
The game suffers from extremely severe pacing issues with filler and sidetracking and also lack of fast traveling too especially since the game often takes you to the same locations more or less throughout the game.
The story is pretty average and the localization too and the characters all across the board just beyond average as average can be.
You can create special orbs and customize them the more you progress throughout the game.
Otherwise the artstyle and graphics was pretty decent.
The enemies were often reskins too and it was pretty grindy from time to time.
The music was decent too.
The game has a band system where you can choose which ability to help you in combat after the meter is full.
With Yuma you can turn into a dragon to aid you in combat and it felt pretty clunky to handle control wise honestly.
Overall it was an ok game.
It gets 3 out of 5 stars.
