Varlet is a jrpg developed and published by Fuyru.

it focuses on a new transfer student Ayase being a member of the student support services and helping out others while bizzare technical glitches are mysterious occurring around campus and the student support services must investigate what is happening.

The story dialogue choices alot of it just felt hollow as theres only 2 endings only based on certain core decisions not all. The story itself is really straight to the point for the most part since its not really like some other jrpgs where its just one filler moment after another before things do start to catch on.

Not helping either is that there is no new game plus included initially but now there is.

This game is full with countless cliches borrowed off from the modern persona games to the point you could even call it a full on rip off.

All of the characters were just so generic and uninteresting and really none of them were fun to be around especially considering how much they ripped off persona characters of the modern games these days.

The plot starting off like the modern persona game was a pretty huge flag and the story had alot of potential but the cliches unfortunately ruined it in the long term.

The story concept itself focusing on how disastrous all social media really is and how things like photoshop, deepfake and cancel culture can be total cancerous plagues (like all of them are honestly) was also there too.

Theres also of course the overused trope of class elitism in school and soyciaty is there and schools like what the mc is attending only just fuels disasters in the long run.

I checked who one of the writers for the game was and im not surprised really that it came from one of the writing members of zhp for the psp and in addition to metal gear survive both below mediocre games.

The dialogue translation was not really that good either as there was usage of modern slang here and there that didn’t make any sense.

The combat itself was pretty good and easy to pick up for beginners to jrpgs its, mainly turned based where you can attack enemies with your skills without really having to worry about losing any mp and attack as much as you want with them and even form deadly combos at certain points to defeat them quickly.

The enemy variety was incredibly lacking.

The game doesnt really rely on buying equipment just items you can get from dungeons and thankfully for the most part its straightforward enough to finish and also, you mainly just buy items but after a while from grinding you can just use the items you earned from dungeons to help you out.

You can upgrade your skills the more you bond with your characters and you can also use certain items and thankfully due to how liberal it can be to find them to boost your stats.

The school life aspect of the game is where alot of the flaws you can find, from boring tasks that you can basically skip over otherwise do them to boost your rank for more bonuses like more items you can get and more money. Not to mention you’re only limited to exploring the school nowhere else.

Hanging out with your friends too is possible for the game and character episodes like in caligula are also there too.

Each chapter starts off with a triad questionaire that affects your stats during combat dont go for machevellian as it can sap your health personally for your character.

The graphics are average thats really about it, otherwise the art is good.

The music was decent too especially since theres a variety of guest composers here like what caligula did in the past.

Overall this was a average game.

It gets 3 out of 5 stars.

Another game disapointment another one to add to the evergrowling list of 90 percent out of the 10 percent where the 90 percent is nothing but  below average to total dogshit anime manga or j video games nothing in between and in this case i shouldnt be surprised since this is fuyru another money laundering scam like idea fucktory really is. So I'll just keep on sticking with the 10 percent like i always usually do as we allready know by now.

Heres where i got my copy from at vgp since play asia is one of their many Asian import connections of course I'd suggest only buy it if you’re really that masochistic for total dogshit.
