Baten Kaitos I & II HD collection is a remastered port of the first two Baten Kaitos games for the Switch. The remaster retains the combat style that players loved in the original. The games are focused on card based collecting and turn based combat.

You choose which card based on what effect it has to help you in combat, be it dealing damage, casting spells or healing yourself. You can build your decks and choose which one would be suitable for in combat. You can even combine cards to form more powerful ones too.

The remaster includes new features like regular battles being optional auto battle and speeding up gameplay and instant kill for any enemies which can be useful.

There is also a new game plus mode now included.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t include a proper map and objective feature to tell you where to go next. You can also use empty card spaces to collect elements to solve puzzles.

But keep in mind the quality of items being held in the empty card spaces could change depending on how long its being held.

You level up by visting a church based on the experience you have collected throughout your journey. The game has a notable use of playing as an unseen avatar to guide the party members and even break the fourth wall too.

The music for the games are enjoyable and the graphics and art still hold up quite well today. The game is exclusively in Japanese voice acting considering how the original’s own English voice acting was really poor. There are also some technical glitches as well. However, this port will bring great enjoyment to fans and is very enjoyable.

Overall the games were pretty good.

It gets 5 out of 5 stars.
