Happy Sugar Life is an anime adaptation based on the manga. It is a horror series that looks at the frailty of human mental health. There are some elements of romance and some suspense. It focuses on the relationship of two girls, Satou Matsuzaka and Shio Koub, living a happy life together until it all crumbles bit by bit.
The story is just another stereotypical Yandere tale where a girl gets crazy and she will attack and kill anyone who dares cross her in the slightest. Everyone one of the characters is mentally unstable and unlikable. The romance may look cute on the outside but in reality, it is one sided and borderline parasocial too. The ending wasn’t great either as there was a good amount of unresolved plot points and questions. The animation and art were generally fine. The series seems rushed at just 12 episodes for such a long running manga series.
Overall, this was an average anime.
It gets 3 out of 5 stars.
