Detroit Metal City is an anime ova thats based on the manga series of the same name. 

It focuses on a group of people who are really intimidated by metal especially extreme ones like death or black metal, and is forced to be a metal band by the label as a result of its growing popularity in their area. 

The music as expected from the genre its pretty transgressive and would normally not be for mainstream audience consumption but in the anime its quite popular and the music soundtrack itself is good. 

The comedy in this series is quite crass and very vulgar from the band manager often mentioning how sexually aroused she gets from extreme metal to even referencing the infamousmoment where the late ozzy osbourne after seeing a bat on stage and the bat’s head being bitten off.  Nothing is off limits here in episode 10 there was one hell of a joke about a really young girl drinking bottle milk and with “white stuff” included you really can tell how comedy during the era of the 2000s was really all in on the r rated stuff and if only more anime like this and shimoneta existed we’d be in alot better place entertainment wise than the tourist slop we see today. :/ Also on the bonus side even the parents were into the performance and you can tell they actuall are doing a good job metalfying their kid instead of growing up to be a taylor swift whore lol. 

The only time i could really recall a bleep was Akebono in episode 6’s name being bleeped for some bizzare reason. 

The characters are pretty much the total polar opposites of the band members they play as, as detroit metal city they are reminsicent to black metal figures especially ones from the 90s Norway scene like Varge Vikhennes,Dead,Faust and Euryounmous especially but outside of the costume they are fragile like,modest and can be quiet timid even if one band member likes Visual Kei and there is Visual Kei that can be pretty transgressive like Dir En Grey for example they’d still would be scared of black metal. The only ones who really take it seriously would have to be the president of death records and the fans themselves one going as far as doing self mutilation of their own genitals just to continue listening to their music. 

Negishi the lead does have a form of character development where he basically just in a way embraces what DMC really is and uses his character to make normalfags pretty mad because of how totally pathetic they all truly are honestly. 

The anime also mocks other genres of music like riot girl being misandristic femcel slop and hip hop and other extreme metal bands as trash below them for comedic reasons but it defiently does hold a point that misandry is total aids. 

Its also pretty ironic and unintentional comedy that a band called Kintama girls took inspiration from Sid Vicious who was really seen as more of an idioitic figurehead and untalented bassist that Lemmy himself knew was terrible and he was really more of a chaotic junkie who “probably” did killed Nancy just like OJ did it really goes to show how hypocritical femcels really all are in the end.  (Not to mention he tried to pick a fight against Freddie of all people the biggest cat loving mike tyson level boxer outside of being the highest of the high level of musicianship possibly is tied to michael jackson and prince.)

The animation and art was generally fine. 

The anime doesn’t cover all of the manga sadly. 

Overall it was an alright anime. 

It gets 4 out of 5 stars. 

There was actually a metal cover tribute style album once upon a time ago but its really not so easy to find online from detroit metal city. 

Unfortunately there was even a video game that was supposed to be made that was almost like elite beat agents but sadly never materilaized. 

Anime would be better off without isekai and normalfag tard slop and more stuff like shimoneta anyways imo.
