nights of azure

Nights Of Azure is a JRPG by Gust and Koei Tecmo. Arnice a half demon who must stop the Nightlord from creating an eternal night on the island of Ruswal. A saint must be sacrificed to stop the never ending darkness from  permanently enveloping the island. Arnice is recruited by the organization Curia to investigate and reverse the curse of the Nightlord. She reunites with her childhood friend Lilysse, who is a saint and is destined to offer herself in order to save Ruswal from the Nightlord.

The concept of the story is similar to Pandoras Tower where you are in a race against time to stop the monsters. The timer feature of the game was annoying, and you cannot explore properly because of it.

The story tone was a bit inconsistent because of forced comedy. The menu system was not the best designed either and there were translation hiccups here and there. Many of the quest had the same objectives. The game is a hack slash focus where you can form chains to damage enemies and also summon servants to help you in combat with their own unique abilities.

The combat was fairly easy and fun for beginners. You collect drops of blue blood to level up after you reach a certain amount. A significant amount of blue blood is required just to level up. The level cap increases later on as time goes but only up to level 15.

You can also use special abilities of your own to help you out in combat and deal great damage to enemies.

Between missions, your hub is the Ende hotel where you can go to the altar to level up and then the arena to grind some more for rewards.

You can also use a trade merchant system to occasionally get items in game from time to time. The graphics were better and ran smoothly and I did not experience any crashes unlike in sequel. You can also do daytime activities to boost your stats to unlock for new perks to help you in combat.

Overall it was an ok game.

It gets 3 out of 5 stars.
