Domestic Girlfriend is an anime adaptation based on the manga series of the same name. It focuses on a love triangle between a student and his stepsisters, one happens to be another student and the other happens to be his homeroom teacher.
What gets even more complicated is that the stepsister with whom he had a one night stand, attends his school and he has to choose between her or the teacher.
The story approaches the incest lite similar to Angel Sanctuary, being open minded and very taboo at the same time.
The characters are pretty messy and very impulsive, leading to a lot of unnecessary drama and conflict. Plot points are recycled over and over with the love triangle theme. There are other sensitive themes like self-harm and how taboo teacher student dating is. The anime doesn’t just have one teacher student romance, as there is another one. The ending and story have a lot of stuff yet to be expanded in the anime. The manga is already finished and considering the content it’s unlikely for it to continue.
The music is excellent, especially the opening and ending themes and won many awards. The art and anime are generally fine.
Overall the story was below average. It gets 2 out of 5 stars.
To be honest, i've only really seen it just because i want to see if it really was as controversial as it was said to be but all i encounterd was just more so dogshit than anything else and also to make woke people mad.
Want a better teacher student romance just read sleeping research club or ayaka sans weakness instead if you want a more well alt type romance
