Fatal Frame is a movie based on the game itself and also based off a novelization, of one of the books in the series too.
It was directed by the same person who also did the twlight syndrome movie adaptation so ok, they at least have some familiarity with J-horror games.
It focuses on a all girls catholic high school suffering a curse and its up to the characters to find out why there is so much mysterious deaths afflicting the school latey.
In a nutshell its really just strawberry panic with horror elements in it and it wasn’t really scary by any given measure.
Like theres a bunch of lesbian stuff too like i was honestly just meh about it thats really it like if i really wanted to see lesbian stuff I'd just look outside the window and see the everrising domestic violence rates of them climb up lol.
The amount of fatal frame references is extremely minimal like camera obscurus is a thing but its not used to fight ghosts which is stupid if you ask me.
The atmosphere was creepy but not really full on scary odd especially since fatal frame 2 especially is well documented to being one of the scariest games tied with forbidden siren code veronica and silent hill 3 and 2 ever to be done in the ps2’s library.
The school setting was interesting almost like resident evil marhawa desire.
The cinematagraphy was pretty good and the acting was decent too.
The characters are all just meh, thats really about it just bland as bland can really get.
Overall it was average thats really it.
It gets 3 out of 5 stars.
I'm interested in the other games of the series despite my somewhat rocky start wit maideon of black water, i do defo wanna checkout the other games too eventually.
