skip beat

Skip Beat is an anime adaptation of the manga series of the same name.

It focuses on Kyoko basically on a revenge quest to get back at Sho her so called “love interest” in the entertainment industry and to humilate him in every aspect possible despite not having any kind of background in the entertainment industry she basically is a natural and as time goes by starts to be seen as a serious level idol during the series.

The plot on paper seems interesting but its pretty much one cliche shitstorm after another from catfighting sidestepping storylines to childish shit testing.

The comedy too was just unbearbly cheesy to the point it just pretty much was more so a distraction and just came off as corny instead of funny. It was also pretty repetitive with the same punchline being used with revenge over and over again even Shimoneta of all things had a more creative use with its sense of humor than this honestly.

The show is something of a slowburner too like it will take a long while for things to really get going to get the plot moving along.

The characters themselves are tropey as tropey can get, i did however found Lory to be amusing however considering how wacky dacky he does with just bout anything he does more so for cringe kind of purposes.

The other cast, to be honest they just came off across as all clout chasers like genuine clout chasers more so than the snide remarks passing by in the story as basically everyone just felt like they were in it for the clout than so passion for entertainment.

Kyoko is just naive and gulliable i wouldn’t really put her on the same level of gulliable naiveness that Hachi from Nana can be but she defiently comes across as that from time to time in the story but at least actually has a backbone in contrast to Hachi. I was honestly for invested in her when she was being evil than so being naive and gulliable or uwulike from time to time.  And the black magic and other superstitions she has it just comes across as more so wannabe Jigoku Shojo and low effort comedy if you ask me.

The art is generally decent and the animation its ok thats really it just simply ok.

The music is pretty good.

The biggest draw the show has, is like many 2000s era anime its not entirely a 100 percent faithful adaptation and i highly doubt there would ever be one long with many anime during that time period seeing how the industry these days favors dogshit coporate slop like isekai,so called edgy shonen which is really just no different to what you see on other types of series or these days 12 episode rushed out shows either. Also apparently some parts were skimmed over and were not included in the story unforutnately too from what i have researched through my copies of the manga and online.

So there is alot of missing parts of the story as a result of that sadly.

Overall its an average anime.

It gets 3 out of 5 stars.

To tell you the truth, its another case of don’t believe the hype to quote Pubilic Enemy, its not an underated gem as one theres millions of old shojo and new shojo fans who seen it without a mal or anilist accoutn and two tourists from the oshi no koi camp would be watching this too to see where else they can spread their stupidity from this time.

They would never try that kind of shit with Jigoku Shoujo i can tell you that much since its not the kind of series tourists would enjoy or would even utter the name of it so on that note its just another commercial for the manga that was overhyped by tourists and you’re better off with Jigoku Shoujo instead of this series to tell you the truth.
