Lunar Remastered Collection is a 2 game compilation of remasters from the first two lunar games developed by the original developers of the game Game Arts.
The series is well known for its legendary nowadays super pricey collectors items from the packaging and also for being one of the many jrpgs that made its home on the ps1 so the game focuses mainly on the ps1 versions than the other ones like the sega saturn or gba or psp versions.

It doesn’t have the other games keep in mind like Magical School Lunar.
I've been meaning to do a review of the Lunar series for a long while now, but with so many versions to go for i wasn’t certain which one to choose so i went ahead with this one but i do however own Silver Star Story for the ps1 and the infamous “series killer” prequel Dragon Song for the ds.
The stories focus around 2 different eras all in the same universe about dragons and basically fight and dethrone god type of stuff.

Tonal wise the first game is more cheesy while the sequel is lot more bleaker but still alot of obnoxious cheesiness to it.
The game is turned based and its pretty straight forward enough defeat the enemies and you level up and gain more abilities as time goes by to help you in combat.

It does have a improved auto battle system from the original now with options on how you want your party members to behave and a fast forward feature and its not really as grindy as it was before with the working designs version being deliberate full of artificial difficulty like it was with Elemental Gearbolt way back then.
You can switch between Japanese and English i personally rather go with the Japanese considering how annoying the English voice acting came off not just the new voice acting in English but also the working designs one in past tense too.

Dungeons are mostly straight forward enough for the most part the crystal tower was a bit of a challenge to go through due to the unintentional amounts of backtracking due to how overly shiny it was where it was not easy to find where you were going.
The games for the most part, focus around the Japanese version of the Lunar games instead of the infamous Working Designs published ones.
Unfortunately, there are cases where the translation isn’t accurate from time to time and the dialogue and humor really just comes off as beyond cheesy and annoying and the voice acting can be really grating.
The graphics are good and theres an option to switch between remastered and older for not only the interface but also the visuals too.
I honestly couldn’t get into the characters except for Ghalleon and the Vile Tribe everyone else was just as bland as boring as you see today you can still see even back then too and the npcs too are just as annoying as you expect them to be when the game tries to write it off as comedic relief, they just come off as beyond obnoxious to even interact with.
There was moments of filler here and there too where it just felt like a distraction to even take part in the first place.

The game does shows its age from time to time with the user interface being kind of clunky to go through and separate stores instead of putting places all at once like one store for armor and another for weapons.
I did had to rely on a walkthrough considering how the game doesn’t give you an objective marker on where to go next.

Im genuinely glad that the original cutscenes were still there remastered and not given to other studioes like the infamous anime milking machine Mappa,Aniplex and the elitist tvoid/movievoid slop consooming pandering annapurna point grey a24 type of anime production Science Saru.
In the sequel you can use your points to improve your characters abilities but the downside is that unlike in the first game, it does have its moments of annoying random encounters than so a simple just approach enemies and let them fight.
The music is pretty good too.
Overall im really glad that the games were remastered after all these years.
It gets 4 out of 5 stars.
Considering how well the game is doing in sales, i think now we could really see a Lunar 3 finally happening and 90s era jrpgs making a comeback and we could eventually see remasters of Thousand Arms Elemental Gearbolt and even Threads Of Fate too happening one day.
For those who are beyond sick and tired of the faggotry sega/atlus is doing with the remakes and milking out the modern persona games this is well worth looking into i can assure you and i highly recommend getting a physical copy of this game too and I'll leave a link down below where you can get a copy of the game.
